Amano – one of the new hotels around Rosenthaler Platz (not naming the Easyjet Hotel, The Circus Hotel the XY Hotel etc.) flooding the area so tourists have a hub to the hip Mitte area was the location for the Mirapodo Launch Party last night. Mirapodo claims that you can return your shoes within 100 days and the shipping to your house (and back to Mirapodo in case the shoes don`t fit or you don`t like them) is free. There is a similar US Service complaining that they wish people would order more shoes even if they ship them back. It`s interesting how the German mindset will take that approach – order and try as many pairs as you want and if you don`t want them send them back! So order order order and – that`s what Mirapodo is betting on – keep not just one pair …

It was a quite interesting crowd, good atmosphere not too much “hippe mitte stuff” and a good place to be last night.

As much as we don`t like all these hotels shooting up like mushrooms if Amano can establish their downstairs Lobby for events like that it will not have been the last time we visit!

The Museum Of Capitalism

A one-night exhibition of reactions to the crash 

A one-night exhibition in a temporary art space in Kreuzberg will examine the reactions of artists, film-makers and individuals to the current financial crash.

Called The Museum Of Capitalism, the exhibition will be a mixture of gallery space, presentation sessions, and a late-night party on Saturday February 7.

“We wanted it to be a party, because until now much of the reaction to the crash has been negative. However there are many people in the world who see these financial movements as positive, as an opportunity to move the economic debate of our time beyond capitalism,” Museum coordinator Joel Alas said.

The main feature of the Museum will be a presentation by The Yes Men, a US-based political satire group who mock world financial systems through their films. Their new movie ‘The Yes Men Fix The World’ will premiere at the Berlinale Film Festival, giving them an opportunity to travel to Berlin and talk with locals about their work. They will show clips from their actions and talk with the public during a special presentation from 21.00.

The venue is Beta Haus, a deskshare/artspace building near Moritzplatz.

Local artists and individuals are being invited to contribute their own ‘exhibits’ to the Museum. Wall-based art, sculpture and video presentations are being sought. Contact Joel if you would like to take part: joel(a)beastnation.com.

What is there to do on a Wednesday in Berlin? Mittwochsclub – seems to be the only thing going on on wednesdays. What started out as a cool Berlin “secret” location where you needed a passowrd to get in turned into a quite popular almost tourist attraction. BUT it is a great place to go on wednesdays if you need a fun night out in the middle of the week. You do not need a password. Try to be quiet outside the club to keep the neighbours from complaining if you want that location to stick around a bit longer. We wont tell you exactly where it is but somewhere close to Kopenhagener Straße and Schönhauser Allee. Have fun!
